1. Briefly about Dresden

Dresden is the capital of Saxony, one of the federal states of Germany. An attractive city for tourists located on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic, Dresden is characterized by authentic German Baroque and modern European styles. Dresden was founded in 1206 on the Elbe River. It got its name from the word "dredzane", which translated from ancient Serbian means “inhabitants of swampy forests.”

At the end of the XV century, Dresden became the residence of the dukes of Saxony, and later kings; its heyday dates back to the XVIII the century when Dresden became the cultural and political center of Europe. The city's industry and transport system have developed since the 19th century. It was in Dresden that the famous Saxon porcelain and the modern school system were invented. The 20th century was especially difficult for Dresden, when it was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. The restoration of Dresden began in 1951 and it was almost completely restored.

According to the 1918 census, 551 thousand people live in Dresden. The central district of the city is Altstadt, which means “old city”. It is home to many historical attractions.

Another advantage of Dresden is its high-tech industry. The city produces high-tech medical and optical instruments, modern musical instruments, computers, vehicles and commercial equipment. In addition, it is in Dresden that the famous Volkswagen Phaeton business class cars and AMD processors are created. Not far from the city there is a factory where the famous Dresden porcelain is made.
