The Ringstrasse is a ring street that circles the center of Vienna. In fact, it is not a circle, but a horseshoe. In 1857, Emperor Franz Joseph, nicknamed the “Eternal Kaiser,” decided to demolish the existing defenses to give the city the opportunity to breathe freely and give it a modern look. Since then, magnificent buildings of different architectural styles have been built here: the Neo-Gothic Town Hall, the Neoclassical Parliament, the Neo-Renaissance State Opera and University and others.
The tram has been running along the ring boulevard, or Ringstrasse, since 1913. Currently it is a yellow tram, which the Viennese affectionately call “Bim”.
There are many attractions along the 5.3 kilometer long ring boulevard. The Vienna Ring Tram departs from Swedenplatz every 30 minutes from 10:00 to 17:30 every day, regardless of weather, and stops at 13 stops.
The tram is equipped with monitors, and an audio guide will tell you about the sights in eight languages. The trip lasts 25 minutes.
Tickets can be purchased from the driver when boarding the tram, as well as at wienerlinien ticket offices and information points. Ticket price: for adults - 12 euros, for children 6-15 years old - 6 euros, for children under six years old - free.
The following attractions await you along the way: Vienna State Opera, Vienna City Hall, Austrian Parliament, University of Vienna, Hofburg Palace, Stock Exchange, Burgtheater, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Museum of Natural Sciences, Volksgarten, Stadtpark and others .
