1. Briefly about Berlin

Compared to other European capitals, Berlin is relatively young. It was founded only in 1237. At the beginning of the 13th century, there were two trading settlements on the banks of the Spree River - Cologne and Berlin. They were soon reunited. The first gave the city the year it was founded, and the second gave its name. According to some scholars, the roots of this name come from the German "bear", and many believe that it is of Slavic origin and means "swamp", although the bear has been a symbol of Berlin for many centuries.

Berlin was initially ruled by the Saxons, and from 1319 to 1918, for a full 500 years, like all of Germany, by representatives of the Hohenzollern dynasty.

Berlin is the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its population is almost 4 million people. Most of them are Lutherans. Berlin is one of the country's 16 states and consists of 12 administrative districts (boroughs) and 96 subdistricts (neighborhoods) within them.

Since 1961, Berlin has been divided into two parts by a wall. One belonged to the German Democratic Republic, the other to the Federal Republic. In 1989, Germany reunited and the wall was torn down.

Berlin is a contrasting, eclectic city. Almost each of its districts has long been an independent city with its own center, architecture and original features.

Berlin is considered one of the most dynamically developing cities in Europe. It has a highly organized transport system. Bicycle paths are striking - a significant part of the population travels on bicycles.

Berlin has many attractions. The city has an amazing, unique atmosphere that attracts tourists from all over the world.

In Berlin, as throughout the country, the currency is the euro.
