Potsdam Square in Berlin (Potsdamer Platz)

Potsdamer Platz is the central district of Berlin's Tiergarten district, connecting several important streets. Potsdamer Gate once stood on Potsdamer Platz and led to Potsdam, a city in eastern Germany. Before the Second World War, Potsdamer Platz, with its railway station of the same name, where many lines of public transport intersected, was considered one of the busiest squares in continental Europe and a popular meeting place on the map of the political, social and cultural life of the city. In 1924, the first traffic light in Europe appeared on this road. It was purchased in New York and installed in Berlin. There is an assumption that the first electric lantern in Europe was installed on Potsdamer Platz.

Potsdamer Platz is a symbol of the new Berlin. It acquired its modern appearance with skyscrapers and futuristic forms after the reunification of Germany.

In the first half of the XX century, Potsdamer Platz was one of the most important crossroads in Europe and the center of social, political and cultural life in Berlin. But the Second World War changed everything radically. The dramatic development of events led to the fact that the “border of three countries” (the Soviet Union, Great Britain, the USA) passed here - three sectors of the occupation of Berlin. Investors have lost all interest in this area. In 1961, the situation was aggravated by the construction of the Berlin Wall.

Potsdamer Platz began a new life after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The world's largest corporations ordered buildings for their offices from famous architects. The new construction was completed in four years.

Today's Potsdamer Platz is a whole quarter, completely different from the rest of Berlin. In addition to the fantastic architecture, the building complex is made using advanced environmental and logistics technologies, with all transport and support services located on the underground floors. I will list what you can see at Potsdamer Platz.

Berlin Wall (Berliner Mauer):

A few months after the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), it became a tourist attraction. Thousands of tourists flocked to the spot where he stood to see the rarity disappear before their eyes. The buildings of the complex house the Berlin Film Museum, many offices, cafes, restaurants, a cinema, an entertainment area, as well as Legoland. (Legoland Discovery Centre).

The Kohlhoff Tower, together with the 103-meter Bantauer and thePWCforms a wonderful ensemble.
