In the center of Milan is the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, which is one of the most interesting and rich museums in Europe. It is located in the Poldi Pezzoli Palace, where the aristocrat Gian Giacomo from the Poldi Pezzoli family lived in the 19th century. It was his merit that the creation of this museum was created. Here is a large collection of weapons, armor, paintings of the XIV-XIX centuries, Italian classicist sculpture, Renaissance furniture, Persian carpets, Flemish tapestries, Venetian glass and antique ceramics.
The Poldi-Pezzoli family, especially the Count's mother Rosa Trivulzio, played an important role in the cultural life of Milan. The Trivulzio Salon was often visited by poets, writers and artists. Having reached adulthood, Gian Giacomo began to expand the family collection of works of art. To acquire interesting exhibits, he attended auctions in France, Germany and Italy. The interior of the palace was a mixture of different styles. The architects designed the staircase and bedroom in the Baroque style, the so-called “Black Room” - in the style of the early Renaissance, "Dante's Workshop" - in the style of the XIV century.
Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli died in 1879. He bequeathed the palace and the works of art stored there to the Breri Academy in Milan. The museum was opened in 1881. The exhibits are distributed in different rooms. Arsenals, weapons and flags are displayed in the armory halls.
The walls of “Dante’s Workshop” are decorated with frescoes, and the windows have stained glass windows with portraits of the poet.
