The Georges Pompidou National Centre for Arts and Culture is one of the top three attractions in Paris and receives 4-6 million visitors annually. In this regard, it is second only to the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Its architects took an unusually bold step and brought all the communications outside. This significantly expanded the internal usable area. Visitors can see a parallelepiped of glass and metal, blue ventilation pipes, green water pipes, yellow electrical pipes, red elevators and escalators.
The height of the building is 42 meters, the length is 166 meters, the width is 60 meters. This will definitely leave a lasting impression on you.
In 1969, French President Georges Pompidou decided to build a cultural center in the Beaubourg district of the capital.
The center opened in 1977 and soon gained popularity among Parisians and tourists, although it was initially met with disdain, just like the Eiffel Tower in its time. Now it is simply called Pompidou or Beaubourg. It hosts exhibitions of works by contemporary designers and artists. After the transformations carried out in the center in 1992, a department of cultural development was created, thanks to which lectures, open discussions, film screenings and other events are held.
After the reconstruction work carried out in 1997-1999, the gallery hall was expanded and the total area of the center reached 100 thousand square meters. Currently, there is a museum of modern art, exhibition halls, libraries, an institute for the study and coordination of acoustics and music, an industrial design center, movie theaters, an observation deck, etc.
The building has six floors. There is another underground floor where there are movie theaters, studio 13/16 for children and adults, a creative studio - "Atelier for Children" and a photo gallery. On the first floor there is a movie theater, exhibition halls and a library, on the second and third floors - a library. Books can be read in a separate room. Admission to the library is free. The fourth and fifth floors house the exhibitions - "Museum: Contemporary Art" and "Graphic Art Gallery", the sixth floor - the "Evolution" gallery, and the rooftop - an observation deck.
The halls display up to 60,000 exhibits related to modern painting, music, architecture, and graphics. Here you can see works by Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, and others. About 5 thousand authors of the world are presented.
The Evolution Gallery presents temporary exhibitions - examples of such art movements as surrealism, cubism and expressionism.
