 Prague metro and its map

The Prague Metro is a relatively new structure – its first station was opened only in 1974, but currently it ranks seventh in Europe in terms of passenger traffic and is one of the main types of public transport in the Czech capital. The total length of the metro is 65 kilometers, and the number of stations is 61. These stations are located on three lines: A (Nemocnice Motol — Depo Hostivař) — green, B (Zličín — Černý Most) — yellow and C (Háje – Letňany) — red. In the near future, it is planned to build lines D and E. All three lines intersect in the city center and form a kind of triangle.

Prague metro stations are full of information signs, so you will have to try your best not to get your bearings.

There are no turnstiles at Prague metro stations. You must buy a ticket for the ride and have it stamped before entering the escalator. Transporting large luggage will cost you 16 CZK.

Of course, you can try to travel without a ticket, but I do not recommend it: in the carriages and in various places of the station building, a controller may appear in front of you, who is no different from an ordinary passenger, since he does not wear a special uniform. He will show you a token and an ID card and ask for a ticket. If your ticket is not validated or expired, nothing will save you and you will have to pay a fine (1,500 CZK). Many metro stations have special lifts for people with reduced mobility.

Children under 6 travel free of charge, for children aged 6–15 you can buy a child ticket (you must have a document confirming your age).

Ticket prices:

- 30-minute - 24 CZK for adults, 12 CZK for children;

- 90-minute - 32 CZK for adults, 16 CZK for children (at the driver's - 40/20);

- 24-hour - 110 CZK for adults, 55 CZK for children;

- 72-hour - 310 CZK.

There is a risk that you will not be able to calculate the travel time and you will be fined. If you are going a relatively long way, you may not have enough time in 30 minutes, so don't skimp and buy a 90-minute ticket.

The Prague metro is open from 05:00 to 00:00, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays - 05:00 to 01:00.
