Public transport in Rome includes the metro, bus and tram. The city also has one trolleybus route, but the trolleybus only runs part of the way with wires, and the rest of the way with batteries and deflated tires. Public transport moves along the streets of Rome in dedicated lanes. Public transport is managed by the municipal company - ATAC (Agenzia del trasporto autoferrotranviario del Comune di Roma), so single tickets are valid for all types of transport, including regional trains.

The Rome metro is a very convenient and popular form of transport. Take a look at the Rome metro map:
5. Bus in Rome
The bus is the most convenient means of transportation in Rome, as it has a very developed network and runs quite frequently - about once every 10 minutes. There are regular, express and night buses.
A regular bus is yellow or red. At the stops, the route numbers are marked in red, blue or black.
Express bus (espressi) - green. They have fewer stops. At the stop, the route number is enclosed in a green square.
The above two types of buses operate from 05:30-06:00 until midnight. During the remaining period, you can use the night bus (autobus notturni). At the stop, they are marked with a dark blue number and a yellow owl, the route number also includes the letter n.
If you want the bus to stop, stand at the stop and wave to the driver. If you want to get off at the next stop, press the yellow button. You will hear a loud bell and the sign above the entrance will light up Fermata prenotata, which means: "Stop booked". The bus stops are marked in blue for weekdays only (feriale), in red for weekends (festivo), and in black for daily. If a bus route is marked with a sign Sciopero, it means that the drivers working on this route are on strike.
In the center of Rome, you can sometimes see small buses - bussini ecologici. These are eco-buses. Although they are slower than regular buses, they move freely along the old narrow streets of the city.
6. Tram and trolleybus in Rome
There are six tram lines in Rome. The tram runs around the city from 5:30 am until midnight. There are two types of trams in Rome: the old red one and the new green one. Unlike buses, trams always stop at every stop, but it is still better to press the yellow button before boarding.
Currently, there is only one trolleybus route in Rome - 90 Express. Part of the route is electric wired, and part is wireless, using batteries, along the route "Termini - Largo Labia" (about 12 kilometers one way).
7. Electric train in Rome
There are 8 suburban train lines in Rome - FR1, FR2, FR3, FR4, FR5, FR6, FR7, FR8 (Ferrovie Regionale) - as well as 3 city electric train lines (Rome - Lido, Rome - Viterbro and Rome - Giardinetti). The total length of suburban routes is 672 kilometers, with 128 stations. Most routes start from Termini Station. There are 8 more train stations in the city. Among them, I would like to highlight Tiburtina and Ostiense.
Train tickets can be purchased at the station, from machines or online. Before boarding the train, you must stamp your ticket in the yellow-orange machines located at the beginning of each platform.
The Leonardo Express electric train runs between Fiumicino Airport and Termini Station (ticket price is 14 euros). You can also get to Rome from the airport by train Regionale and Regionale Veloce, which will cost you much less - 8 euros, but it will not arrive at Termini, but will stop at the following stops: Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, Tiburtina.
You can buy tickets online on the official website of Trenitalia: www.trenitalia.com.

Taxis in Rome are white. Getting into a taxi costs 3 euros during the day, 5 euros on weekends and 7 euros at night (from 22:00 to 06:00), and the cost of 1 kilometer in the first zone is 1.14 euros, in the second - 1.35 euros, in the third - 1.66 euros. The driver is obliged to warn you about the change in tariff. If the car is moving at a speed of less than 20 km / h, a minute costs 0.50 euros. You can carry one piece of luggage for free, for each additional piece of luggage exceeding 35x25x50cm you will have to pay 1 euro.
Make sure that the taxi has a red sign SPQR, which indicates that the taxi is recommended by the municipality, otherwise an unscrupulous driver will make you pay an inflated amount.
