The Parliament building in Budapest is one of the main symbols of the Hungarian capital. It is depicted on most souvenirs and is one of the main attractions that every tourist should see with their own eyes. The Parliament building is the largest in Hungary and is located between the Széchenyi and Margaret bridges. Its architect took into account the peculiarities of the geographical location and placed the building in such a way that its main advantages were equally visible from all sides. The Hungarian Parliament works in this building, as does the State Assembly.
This building in the neo-Gothic style is luxurious and pompous. 40 million bricks and 40 kilograms of gold were used for its construction. Construction was completed in 1904. Chief architect Imre Steindl was unable to see his finished creation because he was blind.
The length of the Parliament building is 268 meters, the width is 123 meters, the highest point is 96 meters. The height of the central dome is 27 meters, diameter is 20 meters. Inside this architectural masterpiece there are about 700 halls and offices, 10 courtyards, 29 staircases. The domed hall houses statues of 16 kings and rulers of Hungary.
You will see a lot of interesting things in the halls. Among them are symbols of royal power - the crown, scepter and sword of St. Stephen.
In the evening, the building is so skillfully illuminated that many people go to see it at this time. The illuminated parliament, reflected in the Danube River, is a mesmerizing sight.
