 Vienna State Opera

The Vienna State Opera is one of the best in the world. Here you can enjoy the highest level of variety, as the famous stage offers an attractive program every day. 60 different opera and ballet performances are held 300 days a year. The most famous singers, performers and conductors in the world have performed and continue to perform at the Vienna Opera. Every year 4-5 premieres are added to the program, and opera evenings are regularly organized for children.

The Vienna Opera dates back to the XVII century, but performances were held in different theaters. By order of Emperor Franz Josef, construction of the Vienna State Opera - Staatsoper - began in 1863 and was completed in 1869 (architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll). The opening took place on May 25, 1869 with Mozart's Don Giovanni. This means that it is already more than 150 years old.

If you love opera, interiors and architecture, this building will surely satisfy your taste.

It should be noted that during World War II, in 1945, the Vienna Opera House was partially destroyed by bombing. It was restored in 1955.

Once a year, usually in February, the stage and parquet of the State Opera, as if by magic, turn into a huge ballroom for one night - the Vienna Opera Ball is held here. In the presence of the President of Austria, this ball is opened by more than 100 debutante couples dressed in long evening dresses and tailcoats. The cheapest ticket for this event costs 200 euros.

In April, May, June and September, in front of the opera house on Herbert von Karajan Square, you can watch up to 80 opera and ballet performances with live performances on a 50 square meter screen completely free of charge.

If you just want to see the building from the inside, there is a 40-minute tour every day at 14:00 (adults - 13 euros, for pensioners over 65 years old - 9 euros, for children over 6 years old and students up to 27 years old - 7 euros, for children under 6 years old the excursion is free).
