The magnificent City Hall of Vienna

Vienna City Hall is located in the central part of the city. It is also called “New”, because until 1883 the city council was located in a different place, namely on Wiplingenstrasse, but the annexation of the suburbs increased the population of the capital and the old town hall could no longer cope with the work. Therefore, in 1873-1883, a new building was built according to the design of local architect Friedrich Schmidt, to whom a monument was later erected. This monument is located in the courtyard behind the town hall.

The Vienna City Hall was built in the neo-Gothic style and modeled on the Brussels City Hall. Its length is 152 meters, width – 127 meters. The height of the central tower is 103.3 meters. He has an iron guard on his head - “Rathausman”. There is an observation area, which you need to climb 256 steps.

The town hall has 1575 rooms and 2035 windows. The building houses 2 libraries and 2 archives.
