The Anonymous is undoubtedly one of Budapest's unusual monuments. Traveling around the capital of Hungary, you can sometimes come across such people completely unexpectedly; there are not so few of them. We will return to them in kaleidoscope of images, and this time we will say a few words about the mysterious Anonymous, who is more like a fairy tale , a fantastic creature than an ordinary person.
According to history, the author of the statue depicted him as he looked in everyday life. The wide cloak and hood on the face reveal a truly mysterious personality.
According to scholars and researchers, he was a chronicler and probably lived during the reign of King Béla III, who ruled the country from 1172 to 1196.
Anonymous penned a book written in Latin, “The Affairs of the Hungarians,” in which he described the settlement of the Hungarians and left us the names of the tribal leaders.
From the work it turns out that its author studied in Western Europe. Most historians are sure that we are talking about the University of Paris, founded in the 12th century.
The Anonymous statue was created in Budapest in 1903 by sculptor Miklós Ligeti. The bronze statue, almost two meters high, was installed in the city's Varosliget Park. The seated chronicler holds a manuscript in one hand and a pointed pen in the other. He wears a large hood, but if you look closely, you can see that his eye sockets are empty. This is another legend about the mysterious chronicler, according to which he was blind.
