Városliget Park – what a beauty!

Don't think that the park was named Városliget after someone. No, this word in Hungarian simply means a city park. It is located in Pest and is a favorite holiday destination for both tourists and locals. Here you can not only have fun, but also relax in a cozy place or have a picnic. We can say that Városliget Park is both the cultural and ecological center of the city - there are a huge number of trees in this area - about 7 thousand. The most convenient way to get to the park is by metro - the station Heroes Square is located here.

History of Városliget Park

During the time of King Matthias, the site of the park was swampy land, which the royal family used for hunting. Later, during the reign of Maria Theresa, they decided to dry them and “ennoble them.” This began a tradition of planting rare species of trees in the park, which continues to this day. Immediately, artificial canals and aqueducts were created, which are still in use today.

For the millennium of Hungary, the city authorities built an underground road so that participants and guests of the holiday could easily reach Városliget Park from the central part of the city. This underground road became the first metro line not only in Hungary, but throughout continental Europe. There are now four metro lines in Budapest, but it is the first line M1 that locals call the “underground road.”

Városliget Park has many attractions. I will list some of them.

- Vajdahunyad Castle - it’s worth coming to this park just to see this castle. At first glance, one might think that this building is at least 500 years old and keeps many secrets, but no - it was built in 1908.

There is an agricultural museum in Vajdahunyad.

- Anonymous - The Mysterious Monk is a bronze statue mounted on a pedestal near the tower of Vajdahunlad Castle. The figure's face cannot be seen because it is covered by a hood. Scientists have not been able to determine the identity of this contemporary.

What is known for certain is that Anonymus was an educated man, a monk who wrote the chronicle of the Hungarian people.

- Szechenyi Bath - this hot water bath will help you relax. The complex was built in 1913 and is the largest among buildings of this type in Europe. Thermal water rises in the pool from a depth of 1250 meters.

There are indoor and outdoor pools, as well as cold water swimming lanes.

- Budapest Zoo will delight children and interest adults too. At the entrance you will be given a map that will help you navigate and introduce you to the rules. Some enclosures are allowed entry, some animals can roam freely around the Budapest Zoo.

In the zoo you will see mammals, a butterfly room, an underground aquarium, a palm pavilion, exotic trees and shrubs, a Japanese garden.

- Budapest Circus - located between the zoo and the children's amusement park. If you plan to enter early, it's best to buy tickets online because there may be a long line at the box office.

In the park there is a museum of fine arts (works by Raphael, Titian, Velazquez, El Greco, Rubens, Rembrandt, Renoir, Gauguin and others are exhibited here) and a museum of the history of transport, where children can touch exhibits and even sit in them.

Well, we visited the Városliget park.
