 The extraordinary castle of Budapest

In 1896, in connection with the millennium of Hungary, an entire ensemble was created from wood, tiles and papier-mâché, including 21 buildings. It reflected the country's past. After the end of the celebrations, the pavilion was dismantled, but the people of Budapest loved it so much that in 1904 it was decided to build something similar from stone in the same place. Construction was largely completed in 1907. The opening ceremony of the stone castle of Vajdahunyad was led by the Emperor of Austria and the King of Hungary, Franz Joseph. The author of the project was Ignacio Alpara. A monument was erected in his honor in front of the castle. Vajdahunyad Castle - a real beauty of Varosliget Park.

The Hunyad family played an important role in the history of Hungary. Representatives of this dynasty were worthy sons of their Motherland.

Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance, Romanesque style are harmoniously combined in the building, which evokes only positive emotions in the visitor.

The castle, like medieval castles, is surrounded by a moat, and to get to it you need to cross a bridge.

I would like to emphasize once again that the Vajdahunyad fortress was built in 1908, but it looks like a building erected several centuries ago. Currently, it houses an agricultural museum.

The fortress was significantly damaged by bombing during the Second World War. It was also seriously damaged as a result of the 1956 uprising. In the 90s of the 20th century, the buildings were completely restored.

To the left of the gate is a chapel that looks exactly like the 13th-century church of the town of Jaka on the Austrian border. It is often visited by newlyweds. At such times, the national flavor of the Magyars is especially acutely felt.

The church depicts Jesus and the 12 apostles. You can get inside for a symbolic price of 100 forints. At the entrance there are two lion statues that seem to symbolically protect the place.

The main element of the complex is the palace, built in the Baroque style, popular in the late Renaissance. As I already noted, it houses an agricultural museum. Entrance ticket price: 1600 forints for adults, 800 forints for students and pensioners.
