The Palace of Catalan Music (Palau de la Música Catalana) is a popular concert hall and one of the symbols of the capital of Catalonia - Barcelona. It is located next to the famous Gothic Quarter. It regularly hosts musical performances, operas, symphony and chamber concerts. Catalan songs are heard on the palace stage, Spanish pop stars perform, and jazz compositions are heard. World famous artists performed here: Montserrat Caballe, Svyatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich. About half a million people visit the Palace of Catalan Music every year.
The building was built in 1905-1908 according to the design of the famous Catalan architect Luis Domenic i Montaner. It was conceived as a concert hall and at the same time the headquarters of the Catalan musical choral society - Orfeon de Catalunya. Later the complex was expanded. Interestingly, the construction was carried out entirely through donations.
The facade deserves special attention, in which details of Spanish and Moorish architecture coexist: red brick is organically combined with stained glass windows, mosaics and corner folds. The central part of the façade is occupied by the sculptural composition “Catalan Folk Song” by Miguel Blay. For a long time, the main entrance was located under it. Visitors will also see busts of famous composers - Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Pierluigi da Palestrina.

The concert hall, designed for 2200 spectators, deserves special mention.
Its uniqueness is expressed in the fact that it has an inverted dome and images of the Muses, made of multi-colored stained glass, and a wonderful ornament. In the center of the dome the predominant color is yellow, representing the sun, and closer to the edges - blue, reminding us of the sky.
In addition, the hall is decorated with sculptural compositions depicting Wagner's Valkyries and Pegasi.
Since 1997, the Palace of Catalan Music has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
