Park Güell is one of Barcelona's main attractions and is located in the upper part of the city, on Carmel Hill. If you want to be inspired, excited, amazed and feel a rush of other emotions, you should definitely visit it. A large park in the “garden city” style of the English concept, which could be used for both living and recreation, was conceived by the Catalan entrepreneur and philanthropist Eusebi Güell. The architect Antonio Gaudi, with whom Güell had worked since 1884, immediately became involved in the creation of the park and worked on this project until 1914. It was his work that turned the park into an attractive place for citizens and tourists.
As you enter the park, you will find yourself in a small square where the main staircase begins. It is decorated with fountains, a mosaic medallion with the head of a snake and the flag of Catalonia, as well as a huge salamander ( symbol of fire and Gaudi's favorite aquatic animal). Above the salamander you will see the mystical holy stone - omphalos - a symbol of the center of the universe.
The staircase will lead you to the "Hall of a Hundred Columns". It was intended for the future market of residential complexes. The acoustics are excellent and concerts are often held here. Above the hall there is a terrace with a bench 110 meters long.
From the hall along pedestrian paths you will find yourself in walking alleys, in the so-called "bird's nests".
In the park there is the Gaudi Museum, where the famous architect lived for 20 years (to enter there, you need to buy a separate ticket).
