 Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona

If you want to see Barcelona from above, be sure to visit the sacred Mount Tibidabo, which towers over the city. In addition to the impressive panorama, several other interesting sights await you here. Tibidabo is located at an altitude of 512 meters above sea level and is the highest point in Barcelona. The name "Tibidabo" comes from the Latin version of the Gospel of Matthew and translates as "I will give to you." According to the story, with these words the devil turned to Jesus Christ to tempt him with power and beauty. It is on this site that the “Temple of the Sacred Heart” was built, on which stands the statue of the Son of God. Jesus' arms are spread out, as if he embraces everyone in his heart as sinners.

There are several attractions on Mount Tibidabo. One of them is Templo Sagrado Corazón de Jesús:

It consists of two churches built on top of each other and a monastery built in 1886. Above the entrance to the crypt, at the top of the arch, a semicircular fresco depicts Jesus Christ, who is glorified by historical figures: Christopher Columbus, Queen Isabella of Spain, King Ferdinand and others. Below the fresco is the patroness of Barcelona sitting on a throne with a child in her arms. On both sides of the entrance are statues of St. George, the patron saint of Catalonia, and St. James, the patron saint of Spain.

On the four lower towers of the temple there are statues of the 12 apostles, and on the main tower there is a 7-meter statue of Jesus Christ.

The interior of the crypt is especially impressive.

The stained glass windows above the altar depict the Virgin Mary, personifying the various peoples of the Catholic faith, while other stained glass windows are dedicated to episodes from the lives of Jesus Christ, John the Baptist and other saints. There is a stained glass window with the inscription "I will give it to you."

Entrance to the temple and crypt is free. The elevator ride to the observation deck costs 3 euros.
