Václav Havel Prague Airport Ruzyně is a modern and large international airport located about 17 kilometers north of the Czech capital. The airport is the main air transport hub for the city and the region, giving you the opportunity to get to know the famous Czech culture, business and sights better. From 1937 to 2012 it was called Prague-Ruzyně, and since 2012 – in honor of Václav Havel, the first president after the Velvet Revolution. The passenger traffic of the airport has increased especially since 2004, after the Czech Republic became a member of the European Union. In 2007, Prague Airport was named the best in Central and Eastern Europe.
There are four terminals in total at the airport. Terminal №1 serves flights from countries outside the Schengen area; Terminal №2 serves flights to countries within the Schengen area; Terminal №3 serves private and charter flights; Terminal №4 is the oldest and serves only VIP flights and official state visits.
You can get from the airport to the center of Prague by bus, train or car.
By bus to the city center:
Bus stops - public transport - are located next to the first and second terminals. The following routes stop here:
- №119 (Letiště - Nádraží Veleslavín);
- №100 (Letiště - Zličín);
- №191 (Terminál 1 − Petřiny − Anděl - Na Knížecí);
- №910 (Terminál 1 - Na Beránku) - night bus.
The most convenient way to get to the city centre is by bus №119 to the stop Nádraží Veleslavín (this will take about 25 minutes), go down to the metro and take the train line A from there. Tickets can be purchased at the airport in Terminals 1 and 2: at the Prague Transport Company counters, at the Visitor Centre counters or from special machines.
You can get to Prague's main train station (Praha hlavní nádraží) by Airport Express bus. It stops at Terminal 1 and runs non-stop for about 25 minutes. You can buy a ticket from the driver or at the Visitor Centre counters (60 CZK).
A taxi will cost you 500-650 CZK, and a shuttle will cost you about 200 CZK.
