There are many baths in Budapest, but recently the therapeutic baths and pools of Rudas have attracted increasing interest among tourists. Among a significant part of the local population, it is more popular than the famous Széchenyi and Gellert baths. The reason for this is probably that the Rudas Bath (Rudasfurdo) is distinguished by its architecture and surroundings. This bathhouse alone offers a wonderful view of the Danube, and under the multifaceted glass dome you can take baths at night.
The healing baths and pools of Rudas are associated with Ottoman rule in Hungary. It was they who built a bathhouse at the foot of the mountain according to Eastern laws. The Turkish spirit is still felt in the architecture and interior of the building.
It should be noted that women were not allowed to go to the baths until 2005. Currently, men can enter there on any day except Tuesday, which is women's day. Men and women are allowed to visit the bathhouse together on weekends. These rules apply only to the bathhouse. The swimming pool and wellness center are open every day for both genders.
The Rudas Bath has a domed roof with holes. Below it, in the middle, there is one large pool, and in the corners there are 4 small pools. They have different temperatures from 28 degrees to 42 degrees.
There are drinking water fountains, a relaxation room, and massage cabins. On men's days, it is customary to remove all clothing and wear a white apron covering the male member. There are booths that can be locked with wristbands.
The Rudas Bathhouse also has a regular pool. You can only take his ticket (the cheapest one). Keep in mind that you can’t go anywhere else from here - there are turnstiles everywhere, which will only allow entry if you touch the bracelet. You must wear a swimming cap. If you don't have one, you'll have to buy a disposable one (rubber or polyethylene).
There is a steam and Finnish sauna. The wellness center includes 6 thermal pools of varying sizes, depths and temperatures. You will go to the coldest one after the sauna, to the cold one for swimming, to the warm one for relaxation.
One of the main advantages of the Rudas Baths - the rooftop pool with views of the Danube and the city - is wellness. Keep this in mind, because if you only take the bathhouse ticket, you will not be allowed on the roof and you will be upset.
Guests of the pool and wellness center leave their belongings in lockers, which are locked with wristbands. There are also changing cabins, scales, hair dryers, and a centrifuge for drying clothes.
Healing waters of the Rudas bath:
- improve the functioning of the respiratory tract;
- regulate pressure;
- help restore gastric microflora;
- restore joints;
- help with rheumatism.
The water here is especially beneficial for women. it corrects, smoothes the skin and promotes its elasticity. The baths are rich in calcium bicarbonate, sodium, magnesium and sulfate. However, some diseases may have contraindications.
The Rudas Bath offers therapeutic baths, aromatic, underwater, therapeutic and restorative massages. You will find out the price for everything at the box office.
When purchasing a ticket, you are given a bracelet that adjusts the time of your visit. With its help you can go through the turnstiles and close the cabin or box. Before leaving, you will throw the bracelet into the turnstile.
You will need a swimsuit, flip-flops, a towel and a swim cap. Photography is allowed, but not everywhere. You will learn about this using the appropriate signs.
There is a buffet and restaurant on the territory of the bathhouse. Anyone can enter the buffet, but only those who have paid entry to the wellness center can enter the restaurant.
The cost of a ticket depends on various factors. For detailed and up-to-date information, I recommend visiting the official website: https://www.rudasfurdo.hu/ and read the information in detail.
