 Vienna metro and its map

The metro is one of the fastest and most reliable forms of transport in the Austrian capital. It is located at shallow depths and often moves above the ground. The distance between the stations (there are only 109) is quite small, and it is not as noisy there as here. The opening date of the Vienna metro is considered to be May 8, 1976, although the current network also includes those sections of the city railway that were laid in 1898-1901. The total length of all lines is up to 83 kilometers. The Vienna metro is serviced by Wiener Linien GmbH & Co KG, owned by Wiener Stadtwerke AG, 100% of whose shares are owned by the city municipality Vienna.

You won't get lost in the Vienna metro. It's very easy to navigate. If you don't know where the station you need is, look at the information boards that are everywhere, and then be guided by the color and name of the line. Colored glowing lines on the ceiling and floor will lead you to the corresponding metro line.

The metro has a special elevator for people with limited liability. The same elevator is used to transport strollers, heavy suitcases and bicycles.

There are no turnstiles in the Vienna metro. The ticket must be stamped upon entering the metro.

All stations have free toilets. At key stations there is access to the tram line, which is very convenient. In some places, the exit from the metro will lead directly to the street:

The Vienna metro is designated - U (U-Bahn) and has 5 lines:

- U1 - red;

- U2 - purple;

- U3 - yellow;

- U4 - green;

- U6 - brown;

- U5 - in development (expected to end in 2026).

Opening hours: 05:00-00:00. It also works at night on weekends and holidays with an interval of 15 minutes.

Attention!!! Due to the modernization of some metro lines, trains may stop moving between different stations for a certain period of time. The city authorities suggest using other routes or specially designated trams and buses during this period. To obtain the necessary information, visit the official website: www.wienerlinien.at.

Ticket price - 2.40 euros. Since there is a single ticket for all types of transport in the central region of Vienna, tickets for the metro, tram and bus are the same. But compost it before leaving the platform, otherwise you will have to pay a fine of 105 euros. For detailed ticket information, see Vienna Public Transport).
