 Budapest metro

The Budapest metro is one of the oldest in the world and the first in continental Europe. Its construction began in 1894 under Andrássy Avenue, and the line was opened in 1896 in connection with the millennium of Hungarian statehood, although back in 1870 the National Assembly of Hungary made a fundamental decision on the construction of a metro in the capitalCurrently, the total length of all its lines is 37 thousand 600 kilometers, and on weekdays an average of 1,200,000 people use the Budapest metro.

There are 4 metro lines in Budapest:

- M1 yellow;

- M2 red;

- M3 blue;

- M4 green;

- M5 purple - in development.

Opening hours: 04:30-11:30. (Different lines have different schedules on different days.)

You definitely won’t get lost in the Budapest metro: there are signs and signs everywhere. All train cars have a metro map, and the name of the next station is written on the board.

Lines M1, M2 and M3 intersect at the central station Deák Ferenc ter. Here you can change from one metro line to another, but to do this you will have to buy a new ticket.

A metro ticket costs 350 HUF. You can buy it in special orange terminals in front of the metro entrance. In addition, there is also a special ticket - Metro Transfer Ticket. It costs 530 HUF and allows you to switch from one line to another.

If you have a Budapest Card, you can travel unlimitedly and transfer as many times as you want (of course, during the validity period of this card). For more information, see Budapest Public Transport.

After purchasing a ticket, you will see small orange boxes at the entrance to the metro. You need to insert a ticket into it. At this time, the date and time will be printed on it. Keep your ticket until the end of your trip. If you don't do this, you will be fined. You will have to pay 8,000 forints on the spot, 16,000 forints later. So remember: just buying a ticket is not enough. It must be composted!!!

I will highlight the stations of the yellow M1 line: Vörösmarty tér (this is the city center), Deák Ferenc tér (transition to lines M2/M3),Széchenyi Fürdő (Széchenyi Bath), Mexikói út (city park here).

Red M2 line stations: Déli Pályaudvar (South railway station), Kossuth Lajos tér (here Parliament building), Deák Ferenc tér (change to line M1/M3), Keleti Pályaudvar (east station).

From the stations M3 of the blue line I will highlight: Nyugati Pályaudvar (Western railway station), Deák Ferenc tér (change to line M1/M2), Népliget (Népliget bus station - from this station you can go to Vienna on the wonderful Flixbus), Kőbánya-Kispest is an important station: from here by bus 200E you will reach Budapest Airport.

From the stations M4 of the green line I will highlight: Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern railway station), Szent Gellért tér (Gellert's Bath), Kelenföldi pályaudvar(South-Western Station).
