A Danube cruise in Budapest is a wonderful and economical way to explore the capital of Hungary. The Danube is a natural attraction. The second longest river in Europe crosses the territory of ten countries, passes through four capitals and divides Budapest into two parts - Buda and Pest. But let's first get acquainted with this type of public transport, the so-called "Water Tram", since a walk along the river has become a necessary part of the excursion program for guests of the Hungarian capital.
River walking is very popular in Budapest. As soon as you leave the city center from Pest to the embankment, almost every hundred meters you will be offered a walk along the Danube. The excursions are varied. You can choose a walk with lunch, dinner and so on.
These offers are really justified, since many of Budapest's attractions are located right on the banks of the Danube. For example, Parliament of Hungary, Fisherman's Bastion, Margaret Island, Mount Gellert, on which the statue of St. Gelerti is erected. In addition, you will carefully examine the beautiful bridges of Budapest.
If you're a frugal traveler watching your wallet, consider another form of public transport in Budapest that allows you to travel along the Danube for almost free. This is a water bus. If you have any type of travel pass (one-day, three-day, weekly, Budapest Card), you won’t have to pay anything, but keep in mind that passes here are only valid on weekdays.
Water bus routes appeared several years ago and are controlled by a transport company. There are four routes: D11, D12, D13 and D14. D14 actually functions as a ferry connecting Chapel Island to the main part of the city. You won't be interested. D11 and D12 work every day, D13 - only weekends and holidays. In winter, D12 and D13 do not work.
The routes are almost the same. Each one has about 10-12 stops. You can get on and off at any stop. You can find berths very easily.
So, sit down in D11 and enjoy the views of Budapest.
Attention!!! Since 2019, the operation of some ferries has been limited. Only the ferry D14 runs regularly from Csepel-Királyerdő to Soroksár, Molnár-sziget. Ferry operating hours: 07:00-20:00. Movement interval - 30 min.
Trip cost:
- for adults - 170 HUF;
- for students and pensioners - 110 forints;
– you can use cards purchased for travel on public transport in Budapest.
