 Vienna International Airport

Vienna-Schwechat, also known as Vienna International Airport, is the busiest airport in Austria. It is located in Schwechat, a suburb of Vienna, 18 kilometers from the center of the capital. In 2008 it was recognized as the best airport in Central and Eastern Europe. Vienna-Schwechat can also accommodate wide-body aircraft. In operation since 1954. It has four terminals - 1, 2, 3, 1A (the central hall for arrivals in any terminal is located on the territory of Terminal 3) - and two runways.







You can get from the airport to the center of Vienna and vice versa by train, bus and taxi. I will provide you with information about each of them, and you can make your choice yourself.


Train CAT (City Airport Train):


Goes from the airport to the metro station Wien Mitte/Landstraße (line U3, U4) without stops It takes 16 minutes. It runs at 30-minute intervals from the airport from 06:09 to 23:39, from Wien Mitte/Landstraße - from 05:37 to 23:07.



Follow the green CAT indicator to find the train.


Tickets are sold from vending machines, at the airport tourist information center, and in the baggage claim area.


Ticket price:


For adults one way - 12 euros, round trip - 21 euros (valid for 6 months after purchase), for children under 15 years old - free. The discount is available to owners of the Vienna City Card (about the card, see Vienna Public Transport).


Train S7 on the S-Bahn line:


This is the most economical way to get from the airport to Floridsdorf (21st district of Vienna). Pay attention to the sign and to the train, as sometimes it only goes to the Wien Mitte/Landstraße metro station (lines U3, U4). Note the S7 logo. The train reaches Wien Mitte/Landstraße (lines U3, U4) in 25 minutes as it makes several stops. It runs at 30-minute intervals from the airport from 05:18 to 00:18, from Wien Mitte/Landstraße - from 04:19 to 23:49.



Ticket price:


- for adults - 4.20 euros, (1.80 euros - from the airport to the border of Vienna + 2.40 euros inside Vienna), for children 6-14 years old - 2.10 euros (respectively 0.90 euros + 1.20 euros). For owners of Vienna City Card (about the card, see Vienna Public Transport ) - from the airport to the border of Vienna - only 1.80 euros.


Fast train ÖBB Railjet:


Rides from the airport to Vienna Central Station and Vienna-Meidling train station without stops. The main train station is a 15-minute drive away and Vienna-Meidling is a 30-minute drive away. It runs at 30-minute intervals from the airport from 06:33 to 23:03, from Vienna-Meidling to the airport from 05:34 to 22:00, from the main railway station to the airport from 05:42 to 22:12.



The ticket price is the same as in the case of S7.


Bus Vienna Airport Lines:


The bus is a good option to get from the airport to the center, just not during rush hour. There are three routes.



Route VAL1:

- Airport - Vienna Central Station (U1 metro line) - Vienna West Station (Europe Square, U3 , U6metro line) - in 40 minutes at 30-minute intervals from 06:00 to 00:00.

- Vienna West Station (Europe Square, U3, U6 metro lines) - Vienna Central Station (U1 metro line) - Airport - in 40 minutes, at 04:30 and at 30-minute intervals from 05:30 to 00:00.


Route VAL2:

- Airport - Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (U1, U4 metro lines) - in 22 minutes, 01:15, 02:45, 04:45 - and with a 30-minute interval between 04:45-01:15.

- Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (U1, U4 metro lines) - airport - in 20 minutes, 00:30, 02:00, 04:00 - and at 30-minute intervals from 04:00 to 23:00.


Route VAL3:

- Airport - Donaucentrum (U1 metro line) - in 39 minutes with a 30-minute interval between 06:00-21:00.

- Donaucentrum (U1 metro line) - Airport - in 42 minutes with 60-minute intervals from 04:58 to 19:58.


Ticket price:


- for adults one way - 8 euros, round trip - 13 euros; for children 6-14 years old – 4 and 8 euros, respectively.


Bus Air-Liner:


- Airport (bus terminal 3, platform 9) - VIB Erdberg (stop A, transfer to metro line U3) - Central railway station (stop P1, transfer to metro line U1 ) – every day from 05:20 to 22:20.

- Central railway station (stop P1, transfer to metro line U1) - VIB Erdberg (stop A, change to metro line U3) - Airport - every day day from 04:50 to 21:50.


Ticket price:


- for adults one way - 5 euros, round trip - 9 euros; for children 6-12 years old - 2.50 and 4.50 euros, respectively.


Taxi:


Taxi fares are paid according to the meter readings (boarding costs 2.50 euros). From the airport to the city center this pleasure will cost you up to 40 euros.
