The central market building is located on the banks of the Danube on the Pest side. Its beautiful façade proudly overlooks the square called Fővám tér. There, across the river, there is the Freedom Bridge. At the market you will learn what Hungarians eat, what products are popular both among locals and tourists. The abundance of products will make your head spin, your mouth will start drooling... But the market is not only about food...
This is the main, oldest and largest indoor market in Budapest. Thanks to the magnificent architecture from the outside, no one will guess it. Thousands of Hungarians come here every day to buy fresh meat, sausages, produce, fruits and vegetables. All this is sold on the ground floor. On the second floor you will find souvenirs and samples of folk crafts. On the ground floor there is a supermarket and several shops.
It makes no sense to list all products. I will only say that the assortment is extremely wide, especially in the sausage department. This also applies to salami, for which Hungary is famous. We will only provide you with photographs and add that the prices are quite reasonable. There you can try some products and buy them. Visit a local eatery or go to the market square and sit and eat there.
On the ground floor there are two currency exchange offices and a paid toilet.
As we already mentioned, souvenirs and samples of folk crafts are sold on the second floor. Everything here is cheaper than in the central tourist areas of the city, and instead of a banal souvenir you can find a unique thing.
And much more. On the second floor you can also enjoy hot dishes such as the famous Goulash, Hungarian hot dog and others. You will leave the market happy and satisfied.
The market is closed on Sundays. On other days it opens at 6 am. It is open until 14:00 on Saturdays, until 17:00 on Mondays and until 18:00 on other days.
You can get to the market by metro - M4 green line, by tram - №2, 47 and 49, by bus - №83, 15 and 114. Get off at the Fővám tér M stop and you will reach the market in a minute.
